Microsoft CRM for Large Corporation ? Security

June 13, 2008

Microsoft Business Solutions CRM proved to be reliable solution in the whole spectrum of industries and market niches: transportation & logistics, education, recruiting & placement, supply chain management, pharmaceutical, oil & gas, aerospace & defense, manufacturing, wholesale & retail. When corporation is looking into CRM application to choose from ? one of the fist questions is security. In this small article we’ll try to give you the highlights on the most typical questions we are receiving in the security area.

? Active Directory. Microsoft CRM uses Active Directory users and its security is built upon Windows domain security. We heard complains about this tight integration. If you compare MS CRM with Siebel, for example ? you will see, that Siebel security is built on the CRM level and Siebel can be installed on Windows and Unix/Linux platforms

? Vertical Security, Roles. If you are thinking about vertical security, say assign more rights to manager, versus salesperson, this should be done on the role level. We first talk about vertical security, to give you conception of the matrix-type of security, realized in MS CRM

Think Of This

June 13, 2008

Think of this, first we had the HAM Radio, then the bbs and now the Internet. Linux and the various other x systems are the next evolutionary step toward enhancing Global 2-way communications. And the best part, its virtually free!

As Fort business scurries to find solutions to the current Linux crisis, the Linux community triads on daily doing what we’ve been doing for the last 10-13 years… developing software, writing manuals, persuading pertinacious hardware vendors… and i.e. working with computers. But, there’s a hitch. You can’t put a patent on creativity and creativity comes from all sources and global regions… And big software companies can’t hire everyone! And if I’m not mistaken, everyone doesn’t want to work for big software. Or, sit in front of a computer terminal all day!

Fort business must and will eventually open its collective doors to free source. Acknowledge the facts that the bulk of there newest and best software was developed by low or unpaid freelance geniuses. To sum it up: Makes good money, makes good sense!

The Religion And Philosophy Of Small Internet Business

June 12, 2008

I have always had a tendency to focus on the positive. We, all of us, know the negative details in society and governments. So why not focus on solutions? Most self-actualized grownups even solve problems in this manner. Chances are we’ll always have the mammoth corporations. Large corporations have their good and bad points. Click? Want to strike back at the aristocracy? Develop and advertise a business website. And it does not matter what country you are from either. Advertise your specialty 24-7-12.

Why do I mention this?

As more small entrepreneurs succeed, so will other small businesses and other small business and other small businesses. This is what we ascribe as the reciprocal effect. Business, large or small runs the country, and the politicians, and the people. Trace back. We are the people! Not a handful of suits, whose mantra is faster, quicker, cheaper, ergo more money for me and the corporation. We are the corporation. Pick one; there are plenty to choose from. The people, the corporation, the system! Collectively, we are all that! We’re getting in our on way. Stepping on our own feet. Going down a road the wrong direction, and know we’re going the wrong direction, and too confused to do anything else. Noticed I said we! The word team does not have an I in it. Anyone who can balance a checkbook, checking account, can operate a successful business! A website is a simple solution and it’s a start. Uncomplicate the complicated. Look at what you want and go get it. I still can’t believe many of the people making ten times the money I make, and with higher math scores haven’t figured this one out. That’s my rant!

Linux ? Keyboard Or Mouse

June 11, 2008

Just stress testing one of the latest Linux distributions. Been testing it for about two months. You know, Linux has advanced some distance since 1992-1993. It looks great! Because Linux is customizable, I decided to change a few of the resident commands. These were not wholesale changes and everything worked out o.k. So I started thinking again. You know, that can lead to solutions you can’t get out of. In this instance, everything worked like a trusty timepiece.

Why customize it? It’s much easier to navigate all of the menus within KDE or Gnome. Set-up most commands with my personal, seven set-ups. With seven set-ups, my self scribed moniker for the upgrade; most applications are accessible with no more than seven key combinations. Open a file? Ctrl-Alt-A. If you want to search inside a sub file, just click, Ctrl-Alt-A, Ctrl-Alt-B. This might look a little complicated. After you learn the several key combinations, it’s a snap. Forget the mouse, unless you’re designing high dollar graphics. Maybe something like this could give KDE, Gnome desktops that something extra.

Linux Dual Boot-How To Format

June 10, 2008

Just the thought of a duel-boot scares many people away, but over the years it’s developed into an easier process. Most people are running Windows, so I’m assuming it’s your choice of preference:

1.Re-install Windows. Look for a three line menu that reads something like; Do you want to install NTFS. Do you really want to install NTFS. The third line should read, Install FAT 32. These are just partitioning schematics.

Note: If you can’t locate FAT 32, reboot and look for FAT 32 again. If you don’t succeed the second time, repeat until you can locate it. At the current (07.27.05), installs tend to work in this manner. It’s there, but you must go through this reboot procedure. When you locate FAT 32, install it. You will see it on a three-line menu, usually at the bottom. Install normally takes about 30-60 minutes.

After installing Windows, install the Linux CDs. It should recognize your FAT 32 Windows partition. On a three or four line menu screen it should ask you if you want to keep the FAT 32 partition. Click yes. It’s that simple, with a good distribution of Linux.

Fast Car Knoppix

June 9, 2008

Small can be beautiful! Working with Knoppix for the past two years has been a joy. Two terms to describe this distribution, simple, elegance. See Knoppix is one of the many operating systems that runs from the CD, so it doesn’t have the hardware conflicts associated with many instruction sets between hardware and software.

When first installing it, I could see that it had potential. All of the install routines were smooth. Registers, ship sets, in sync recognition. When you test operating systems daily, you get a certain feel for what works. And then sometimes, the dreaded hiccup. Programs lost it’s way. With Knoppix, no such encounters. Up pops the screen, elegance! Fonts rendered perfectly and clear. Remember, Knoppix is a total operating system on one 700mb CD, not a DVD. Clicked the menu button, small application city.

Groupware and Online Collaboration: Collaboration Series #4

June 8, 2008

This article is the fourth of a series of articles exploring specific aspects of groupware. The brief informational articles in this series discuss some of the technologies associated with groupware, as well as some of the characteristics of groupware. Some of these characteristics may go hand in hand with business collaborative needs. Other characteristics go beyond what some groupware providers have to offer. The purpose of these articles is to equip the groupware user or investigator with helpful knowledge about the product in order to enable more effective use or to lead the investigator to the groupware service he or she is looking for. This fourth article explores the ability of groupware to facilitate online collaboration.

Online Collaboration

Online collaboration consists of sending emails back and forth to edit and review attached documents, like market reports, budgets, contracts, and press releases. Most businesses go through this process very regularly with departments, clients, investors, and strategic partners.

In today’s fast-paced business world, businesses are constantly under deadlines, working tirelessly for their business and client needs. The challenge is in keeping up with all of the online collaboration going on. After all, online collaboration has become an ad hoc process, and document versions get saved in multiple email boxes and on multiple hard drives. When it comes time to merge document changes and create a final draft, many questions are left unanswered.

Business Planning Software

June 7, 2008

Once a business idea is selected, it is highly recommended that we sharpen the concept by a detailed planning process. The result of this step is a comprehensive business plan, with its major components being the marketing “mix,” the strategic plan, operational and logistical structures, and the financial proposal. The purpose of the business plan is to recognize and define a business opportunity, describe how that opportunity will be seized by the management team, and to demonstrate that the business is feasible and worth the effort.

While this may seem a daunting task to first-time entrepreneurs, many "veterans" have found that there are software packages that can help to organize and format the material required for a comprehensive plan. These packages are particularly helpful to those who are intimidated by starting from a blank piece of paper.

So is there a downside to purchasing software that has most of the text "in place?" The text is not always well-written, "fill-in the blanks" tends not to produce very fluid copy, and the parts you write may be in a different style than the words surrounding it. Some experts suggest that the real usefulness of such packages lies in the examples, when they are in a business similar to yours.

10 Things You Can Do With Photoshop CS2 That You Couldnt Do Before Now

June 6, 2008

Is Photoshop CS2 worth the upgrade? You bet it is! Here are just 10 things you can do with this fantastic new version of Photoshop that were impossible (or difficult) to do with previous versions:

1. Manipulate objects in the Adobe Bridge

This new generation of file browser enables you to look at photographs and artwork in detail before you open the file, process multiple Camera Raw images, flip through pages in PDF documents, size, rate and organise your work in a convenient and highly user-friendly way. Goes way beyond the capabilities of the File Browser introduced in Photoshop 7.

2. Get rid of imperfections with the Spot Healing Bush

The Spot Healing brush enables you to get rid of slight imperfections - like dust or scratches at the click of a mouse. Unlike the Healing Brush or Patch tools, you don’t have to find a source point first.

3. Remove “red-eye” in an instant.

With older versions of Photoshop, removing red-eye and pet-eye was possible, but it wasn’t easy. Now, one click of the Red Eye removal tool can remove pet-eye and red-eye from your photographs, in less time than it takes your subject to say “cheese!”.
